Eight Years On: LawnMowing.my Marks 2018-2026 Serving Petaling Jaya

February marks eight years since the first paid cut under the LawnMowing.my name, a single overgrown terrace lawn in SS2, done with one mower, one brush cutter, and a borrowed pickup. This month we’re taking a short pause from lawn-care advice to mark the milestone, thank the people who got us here, and share where the business is heading.

Where It Started: SS2, 2018

The idea behind the business was almost embarrassingly simple. In 2018, finding someone to cut grass in PJ was easy, finding someone who would keep showing up was nearly impossible. Homeowners told the same story everywhere: a decent first cut, then missed visits, then a dead phone number, then a jungle.

So we built the business around the boring part: the schedule. Fixed routes. Fixed crew. A WhatsApp message if rain shifted a visit. It turned out reliability was the rarest thing in lawn mowing in Petaling Jaya, and it still is.

What Eight Years Taught Us

A few lessons stand out from eight years and a few thousand cuts across PJ and Damansara:

Grass care beats grass cutting. Early on we cut whatever was in front of us. Over time we learned that the lawns that stayed beautiful were the ones we also fed, aerated and watched for pests. That’s why services like fertilising and weed control grew from add-ons into core offerings.

Local knowledge compounds. Eight years on the same routes means we know which TTDI streets stay shaded and damp, which Kota Damansara lawns bolt in the monsoon, and which Bandar Utama gardens sit on the worst of the clay. That history shows up in the quality of the work.

Small is a feature. We’ve stayed an owner-led crew of four on purpose. Clients see the same faces every visit, and nothing gets lost between a salesperson and a subcontractor, because we don’t have either.

To the clients who’ve been with us since the early years, especially the SS2 and Mutiara Damansara households who recommended us to half their streets: thank you. An owner-run business grows on word of mouth or not at all, and ours grew on yours.

What’s next is more of the same, done better. This year we’re tightening route days so visit timing gets even more predictable, expanding the feeding programmes that have worked so well on recovering lawns, and publishing more of what we know in our lawn care guides so PJ homeowners can make informed decisions, whether or not they ever hire us.

Eight years in, the mission hasn’t moved: keep every lawn neat, green, and easy to forget about.
